Chapter 43

After I banged on Sydney’s door for nearly a minute, Kaden finally cracked it open and peered out. His hair was uncharacteristically messy, and he was out of breath, shirtless, and, judging by the way he twisted his body behind the door, probably naked.

“Oh, Lanei. Hey.”

“Hi.” I folded my arms and raised an eyebrow.

“Do you… need something?”

“I’m going to go out on a limb and guess Sydney’s not in right now.”

Kaden shook his head. Beads of sweat dripped from his hair. “He, uh, had to meet with Reno about something.”

I leaned against the doorframe. “So when I find him, how long do you want me to keep him away?”

Kaden glanced over his shoulder then back at me. “Can you handle him for another hour?”

I gave him a mischievous grin. “If you can handle another hour, so can I.”

“Thanks. Oh, and can you not tell Sydney I had someone back here? I’m not certain his parents ever explained the birds and the bees to him, and I really don’t want to have to do it.”

I snorted. “My lips are sealed.”

He nodded his thanks, closed the door, and got back to business.
